The Power Design Project, unveiled in Tokyo in March, is a testament to Seiko's willingness to explore unconventional ideas. While the concept's non-production status might seem familiar, it's worth noting that Seiko has a history of bringing experimental designs to life. The release of Collection 1 in December 2025, derived from the 2022 'Rebirth' theme, is a prime example. This collection, designed by Yuya Suganuma, was priced between ¥50,600 and ¥56,100, with a limited production of 500 pieces per finish, indicating a successful transition from concept to market.
Seiko's design archive further highlights the brand's experimental nature. Prototypes from the 2001 to 2009 era, such as the Shadow watch with its shadow-casting time display and the Marunouchi watch with its unique dial, were not only showcased but also commercialized. However, certain concepts present more significant production challenges. Kento Ito's bezel-as-gear winding mechanism, for instance, would require specialized equipment, making its realization less likely.
